It is quite warm for the 3rd week of Feb. Our high temp is -5 and our low is -12.
This winter has been easy. So far. About 50cm of snow on the ground here.
Chicago has been getting lots of snow. How do you like that Frood?

It's warm and wet, quite humid but bearable. If it gets really humid i'll just turn on the head pump, which has a dehumitify cycle :)

Well it's been odd - stil not above freezing here - but not enough snow. Enough = me not being able to drive to work.

Work is getting worse. I think that if there is a day where you think you're going to break down in tears 3 times then it might be time to re-evaluate everything...

Ah it's the work bollocks and politics.

Feeling very stupid when I know I'm not stupid. But it's hard to convince yourself of that at times.

I seriously couldn't give a flying fuck about reinsurance which is what I'm working with which I think makes it harder as there is no incentive for me to try to understand more, and I get frustrated when I don't understand things.

Work knows this (it was mentioned in my year end review in 3 places after all) yet they still dump this crap on me with the "oh but you have to do it", "if you can't do it then no one else would be able to" (personally I think that if only one person is going to be able to do it, then they shouldn't have taken it on cause it's extra stupid to only have one person able to do something) etc etc.

No life stuff cause I have no life. I need to get one of those...

That's no good frood :( Definitely need to get an external interest to at least have something positive to think about! And if noone else can do this thing then how do they expect you to learn to do it?

I think that they're expecting me to learn by osmosis or something. Might be easier if those who know the stuff didn't resent us. Ho hum. Apparently I have to get it up and running then I can move away from the coal face and work on transitioning and other fun things.

Test case review tomorrow morning. What fun! Then I have to give a presentation on how we're revamping defect management...

Is this testing and defect management stuff IT based or another industry? I work in IT transition management as well, happy to help if you need an ear or some ideas!

Ho hum. Well I just have to hope that they go for the pulling the plug on the project (hope springs eternal after all :o) I know it's a long shot but it's there "on the table" as they say as of today!)

Fuck it - I think I've explained my many issues with it all - it's so not worth me getting stressed about it all. I am more important then it after all.

So how long are you going to have the cast on for?

I went home early from work. I think I'm making myself sick. This is Not Good.

My manager is over next week. This might be interesting. Or a waste of time...

The cast... for another 4-6 weeks. I did manage to upgrade today from my crutches to a wheelchair and a frame, after very dramatically falling off my crutches and almost pitching myself over the little fence that stops you falling down to the next floor down... right in view of the orthopaedics reception. I have no sense of balance, what can I say...

Your manager is probably only coming for the trip, I bet he leaves you alone for all except the obligatory one-hour catch-up while he's there. Don't stress about it. Have you ben looking for other jobs? Sounds like you should be!

I wonder if they have CCTV there that may have caught that incident - if so I guess they have a bloopers reel of people falling over all over the place. I know it's mean but the imagery is quite amusing...

Apparently threatening to leave is the way to get off nasty projects... One of the guys did it, but explaining how I feel about this all doens't seem to be working... Humm.

As to me - I'm trying to motivate myself to complete my uni application form, then I can see if I've something different to go to in September if they accept me. But feeling generally crappy does mean it's hard to motivate myself to do anything. Else I'm going to have to look for another job.

Me?
I test software.
Up to now it's been stuff that has been developed in house for naive end users (i.e. people off the street), but now I'm supposed to be helping test a 3rd party application that had to be enhanced to meet the company's needs. Working from less than ideal documentation, on applications that really need detailed business knowledge to know if they're working correctly with a team who have been working on this for over a year without that pesky QC and with whom I've not gelled..

It's a project we should not have taken on - and I really shouldn't have been assigned to it. I came over cause I figured that it wouldn't be any worse working on it here than back at home... Initially the idea was that I'd do a couple of months on it, then move on to scoping and transitioning other project work - the thing I'd prefer to do. So I've also got 2 poor sods back home who are trying to work on it as well and I'm angry that I can't give them the help or support that they need cause I don't really know anything more than they do. People who aren't working on it just don't get the frustration of it. I don't deal with frustration very well

And slightly off topic - the horrendous number of static shocks I"m getting every day is worrying. Need to work out how to stop getting them! Worked out that when getting out of the car, I need to touch metal before I put my feet to the ground, though I'm getting shocks when I get out of bed!

Avoid synthetic fabrics, and try anti-static spray - you should be able to get it from a fabric store. Your car might need an anti-static strap as well. Either that, or you might be ascending to a higher energy-based life-form, spark by spark ;)

Humm - I like that last idea. And yes you may be.
Though it's been damp all day today so hopefully that'll help dampen down (baboom-tish - thank you I'm here all week) the shocks. We will have to wait and see.

Every one seems to be suffering with it here though - apparently it's just normal as it's so dry. Ah see this is why the damp rainy climes of home are good.

Wear an anti-static strap around your head. It won't help, but it'll make people think you're nuts, which is enough of a reason to do it IMHO ;)

Curious. They've snow back home and I've had 28C today. I am awfully confused. It's only just April, it's not supposed to be that warm here already. Especially when 2 weeks ago I was running in 0C drizzle!
